Our Story
Matt Hassrick founded Matt's Import Haven in 1986, originally operating as a 4-bay auto repair shop specializing in Import vehicles. In 1990, Vicky and Matt became a team, in life and in business. Together, Matt and Vicky were unstoppable, growing the business into an 8-bay shop that now services everything from imports to electric vehicles (EVs). Over the years, they built a reputation for trustworthiness and reliability, becoming a cornerstone that the community could always count on. After more than 39 years of dedicated service, Matt and Vicky are now passing the torch to Forrest and Kathy Wendt, beginning January 1, 2026.
Meet Forrest and Kathy
Forrest began his journey at Matt’s Import Haven in November 2018. His potential quickly became evident to Matt and Vicky, and ideas of ownership began to grow. In February 2022, Forrest and his family ferried over permanently to Whidbey Island to embark on their new adventure. Both Forrest and Kathy grew up in Burien, attending the same schools, riding bikes through the same neighborhoods, and even working just a block apart as teenagers—though they didn’t meet until being introduced by mutual friends in their mid-twenties. They married in 2004, welcomed their first son, Mason, in 2007, and their second son, Xander, in 2012. In their free time, Forrest and Kathy enjoy hiking, boating, camping, beach walks, and board games. They are thrilled and honored to take ownership of Matt’s Import Haven, to establish deep roots in the community, and become active members of South Whidbey.
